It The Devonshire Arms Hotel and Spa at Bolton Abbey is definitely a jewel on Yorkshire’s crown, with an impressive history and the most wonderful hotel, restaurants and spa and the location and setting make this the perfect place for a Spa Day. H&N’s Angela Richies road tests some of the new Temple Spa treatments on offer…
The Devonshire Spa is housed in an ancient barn, adjacent to the Devonshire Arms Hotel. There are four generously-sized therapy rooms, an indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, Rasul temple, relaxation space and lounge, with views over the tennis courts, with a separate gym next door.
I had been invited to visit and sample one of the new Temple Spa treatments, I chose the 75 minute Totally Quenched and Drenched Facial which sounded delightful and something I needed as it is the ultimate in anti-ageing. I was to indulge in a lavish experience of combined powerful ingredients and techniques to help fight the ageing process and loss of elasticity in the skin.
This divine facial includes a signature face and décolleté massage including a specialised eye massage to stimulate circulation and muscle tone. Skin is then exfoliated and treated to a double layer hydrating and cooling cryogenic mask including an application of the award winning Temple Spa Quench Hydrating Mask. The results were outstanding; my skin looked plumper, firmer, hydrated, visibly smoother and wonderfully soft. They call it a facial iron. I totally enjoyed the whole experience, thanks to my therapist, Juliet who expertly walked me through the whole treatment and what to expect during and after the facial. I was not to be disappointed.
Not for the faint hearted and most extreme claustrophobic is the mask! I even took a photo of mine after it had been taken off and was rather tempted to keep it as a trophy in the office! It worked wonders and to be honest didn’t bother me in the slightest even though I am claustrophobic. My wonderful treatment was followed by a lunch fit for a king. I chose the Atlantic Prawns with Marie Rose sauce, lettuce and cucumber sandwich, served in granary bread and it was huge! I only managed to eat half of it which is a shame as it was spectacular. They did ask if I would like to take it home but I couldn’t bring myself to do a takeaway from The Devonshire Arms! I did regret this later when I was hungry again
Unfortunately I didn’t have time to indulge in the other facilities on offer. After my treatment I could have happily relaxed the day away but duty called and I had to leave sooner than I would have liked. All the more reason to go back and indulge in a full day of pampering.
