I am what you might call a low maintenance kinda gal when it comes to beauty – some would even call me lazy…
The only thing I religiously keep up to is my nails, and that is partly because my nail technician is a good friend and it’s a chance to catch up and have a gossip – killing two birds so to speak.
However, at 39 years old, I’m finding myself looking more closely at my face in the mirror and studying each new line or crease with concerned contemplation. Most of my friends are no strangers to a little work here and there and they always look great, fresh faced and have that ‘I take care of myself’ glow about them. I, on the other hand, am a complete virgin and am starting to consider my options, especially now I’m noticing the gradual signs of ageing.
Dermaplaning has been around for some time, a super effective exfoliating treatment using a surgical scalpel to gently scrape off any dead skin cells on the surface of your skin and remove excess fine hairs which are known for trapping the dirt, oil and dead skin cells in your pores which can cause blemishes.
I visited Lizzie at Derma Days Aesthetics to try out this treatment for myself, and frankly I was over the moon with the results. Whilst this treatment certainly isn’t going to get rid of unwanted lines and creases, with regular treatments the long term effects include increased cell turnover, fewer wrinkles and dark spots, reduction of acne scarring, and the removal of fine facial hair.
Dermaplaning has given my skin a real boost leaving me feeling fresh faced with a more youthful glow. The treatment itself is completely pain free and to be honest I found it rather relaxing, finishing with a moisturising facial massage which was even more zen! An added benefit of this treatment is that your regular skincare products will work much more efficiently since they can penetrate the skin more easily – I have also noticed my make up goes on smoother.
Lizzie commented that the most important thing to remember after a dermaplaning facial is that your skin will be much more sensitive to the sun and other environmental factors. While this is true of any facial, this is especially important after a dermaplaning facial as a deeper level of exfoliation has occurred, she recommended using SPF protection on my face after the procedure and to reapply often in the following days which I have.
DermaDays is a small private clinic based in Idle, Bradford, owner, Lizzie, offers various treatments including non-surgical cosmetic injectables as well as dermaplaning.
I tend to get slightly anxious about being in this type of situation as it does feel rather intimate having somebody so close up and personal, but any nerves I had were immediately quashed and I felt completely at ease – which could be a bad thing as I might be turning up every week!
I am definitely considering all of my options now, given how happy I am with the result of my recent visit. In fact I have already booked my next dermaplaning treatment and am considering some injectables to boost my confidence further.
I know that fillers and anti-wrinkle injections are not for everybody, I didn’t really consider they would be for me, until now, but I do feel like it’s now something I would try and I would certainly recommend Lizzie at Dermadays for anybody thinking of taking the plunge!
