Ethical Gifting -Zero Waste Gifting -Sustainable Gifting
I always liked to shop for gifts for my friends and family, seeing the surprise on their face gave me immense joy. In all years of buying gifts, wrapping them, and making them look perfect, the amount of waste I created was staggering.
At Sintra, we try our absolute best to avoid creating waste. Recycling is expensive even though using cardboard is environmentally friendly, so we have biodegradable and reusable options as landfill costs money. However, going 100% waste free is almost impossible so we concentrate more on reusable packaging.
So, we created 2 beautiful gift sets where the packaging can be reused.
One gift set comes in a tin box which can be used to store various items, it is also food grade so perfect to store biscuits and candy, or you can use it for your bars of soap or shampoo bars. The uses are endless.
The second luxury gift set comes in a handmade wooden box which can be reused to store your precious keep sakes like photographs, baby memories or any of your precious jewellery. We minimised the branding too so if you want to use the gift box to re gift you can do so.
The name says it all – any beauty products which are clean and free from toxic ingredients can be classified as clean beauty.
In the current market there are many brands claiming Natural, Organic, Green and Nontoxic – but the reality is it is extremely easy to hide the toxic ingredients.
The main culprit in any beauty products is the fragrance oils used. This is a loophole which companies use effectively as there is no regulation currently banning the use of fragrance oils in either soaps or skin care formulations. These fragrance oils are usually a mysterious concoction of undisclosed synthetic chemicals. They do no good to the skin and are highly irritant.
Clean beauty is simple. It is just few natural ingredients blended to make a product which is nontoxic. So rather than going for buzz words like Organic, Green and Eco-Friendly, please read the labels and see what the ingredients are.
What We Do at Sintra Naturals
Sintra labelling is simple and clear. We have listed all the ingredients used and that is it, there is nothing hidden what you see is what you get!
There are no fragrances, parabens or sulphates used, just 100% natural ingredients which are good for the skin.
Essential oils are used instead of fragrances and the percentage we use is minimal as essential oils can also irritate skin if used excessively. We use amber reusable glass jars for our body butters and cleansing balm, these provide the best storage options for products with aromatherapy oils as when stored wrongly the oils can go rancid and irritate the skin.
All our handmade soaps are cured for four weeks so that the sodium hydroxide used in the saponification process is completely evaporated and you get a hard bar of soap which lasts longer. Usually cold process soap is ready in a week for use, but we take extra precautions by curing it for four weeks.
Does Clean Beauty have to be all Natural?
The answer is no. There are many manmade natural derivatives which are perfectly safe for skin, such as sodium coco isethionate, which is a coconut derived manmade surfactant, perfectly safe when used in recommended levels.
Clean beauty does not have to be organic; we can achieve clean beauty by keeping the recipe simple and clear and irritant free.
So, what do we mean by sustainable products?
In regular skin care products, whether natural or not, they have ingredients in them which are there for aesthetic reasons or to make the products cheaper.
For example, in soaps they add mica in different colours to make them look appealing, so we need to ask ourselves – do we need soaps to look so colourful? It makes sense to colour make up as it has a purpose but colouring soap with synthetic or natural micas do not bring any benefit to the product. It is not a sustainable process of soap making, we colour our soaps with ingredients which bring benefit to the end product.
The pink colour in our rose soap is from French pink clay which has healing properties.
The green colour in matcha green purity is matcha tea and I know I do not need to explain the benefits of this super food.
Our lavender soap is coloured by alkanet root which is great for skin nourishment.
We do however add essential oils in our body butters where we can experience their amazing healing properties.
We founded Sintra Naturals on three values: honest, affordable, sustainable, and natural. We are enormously proud to have achieved them all and know that you will love our products as much as we do.
We made them with love – for you.
