WINTER AT TATTU
I think most people living in and around Leeds have Tattu at the top of their list of places to visit if they haven’t already sampled the delights this Mecca of contemporary Asian cuisine has to offer.
I have visited on a handful of occasions and enjoyed each visit more than the last, cementing my thought that this restaurant just gets better and better.
There is no doubt that it’s a show stopper in the style stakes, but thankfully the food is just as good as it, and the restaurant look. The menu at Tattu is extensive, I find it slightly over facing personally, so it’s good to know that the staff know their onions and can recommend dishes if you, like me, have no idea!
WINTER AT TATTU
On this occasion I was visiting with a friend and we wanted to sample some of the new dishes on the Autumn/Winter menu. We both agreed to let our server choose our dishes but we did advise her that we would rather share a few small plates than have starters and mains. We both like tapas style dining and Tattu is perfect for this with plenty of dishes to choose from. Of course you can always opt for a more traditional style of dining with starters, mains and desserts but on this occasion we went for a sharing dinner with a staggered serving of small plates.
The mixed Mixed Dim Sum Basket with Wagyu, Thai chicken, Har Gau XO is an absolute must for me. I simply love dim sum and Tattu’s are hard to beat! Tasty, satisfying and moreish.
Our server also recommended we try a vegan dish of Tofu Pockets with Sticky rice, wild mushroom and wasabi. It was interesting to try this as I do dabble with a veganism every so often, however, tofu is not my thing and my guest chowed down on my portion as she really loved it! However, I did really enjoy the Wild Mushroom Spring Rolls and especially the delectable Truffle sour cream dipping bowl.
We both absolutely devoured the Sticky Red Prawns with Chilli bean, honey and crispy rice. There are no two ways about it, this dish is delicious! Juicy prawns with a scandalously good chilli kick and the Sticky Beef Short Rib with Soy, chilli and crispy shallots is not a new dish, but it is a no brainer! I have had this beef on every single visit and it has never varied in quality, consistently delicious. Can’t say fairer than that!
The showstopper of this evening however, was our servers choice of Saffron black cod with Chinese sausage razor clams. This dish is sublime, it’s not a small plate, you’ll find it in the seafood section of the main courses, but it came highly recommended and so we had to push the boat out a little. It was the perfect dish to finish on, I haven’t eaten a dish I have enjoyed so thoroughly in a long time.
The service at Tattu is always bang on the money, always welcoming and friendly, knowledgeable and professional. They have happy people, serving great food and I can’t fault a thing about this place, other than it’s not within walking distance of my home.
