Not only is Peckham one of London’s most upcoming areas, it is also home to the plant-based kitchen – The Omni Collective.
Now, I’m not vegan but I still appreciate all things veggie and trying new combinations, including plant-based. Growing up, I tried everything, mainly because if I didn’t eat what I was given, I didn’t eat at all! I’m now eternally grateful for this tough love approach to food as there isn’t much I won’t eat or try!
To this day, I still have so much to discover and learn about food so I was really intrigued to visit Omni. Everything here is entirely vegan including the selection of natural wines, and being solely plant-based means they can easily cater for gluten free guests without any fuss.
Originally starting as a pop up, The Omni Collective delivers imaginative dishes which excite your taste buds to no end! In a prime spot in Peckham Rye, the quaint restaurant has a nice buzz and as chef cooks up a storm in the kitchen, you can enjoy some of the meticulously sourced vinos.
Dining from their ‘All In Menu’ which consists of nine dishes (all for the affordable cost of £40pp), means you can take away the decision of ordering and just let the good food roll! The menu is designed to share with the dishes arriving in groups of two or three at a time.
The meal kicked off with some Pickles and Ferments and Smoked Cerignola olives, which were so intense with flavour. Followed by focaccia with charred cucumber marinated in wild garlic and herb yoghurt with Szechuan pepper. A winning combination for me!
As the next round of dishes arrived, I was even more excited to try the Tortellini with Jerusalem artichoke four ways. The tortellini is stuffed with Jerusalem artichoke sitting on top of artichoke puree, sprinkled with picked bits of artichoke and topped off with artichoke crisps. Not only is this dish impressive by utilising one vegetable in such a sophisticated way, it tasted damn good with each mouthful packed full of flavour and texture. This one ticked all the boxes for me!
Each plate served was just as good as the previous. As the menu is seasonal it does change from time to time but the chefs Cerleriac okonomiyaki with miso aioli and mushrooms treacle Is one I hope they keep on the menu forever!
