puerto de indias strawberry gin review

The pink gin craze shows no sign of slowing down in the UK, with the Insta-worthy drink selling by the truckload in bars up and down the country. Until recently, however, we weren’t aware of Sevillian distiller, Puerto de Indias, but their premium strawberry gin really knocked us for six.

The story of Puerto de Indias is an unconventional one to say the least. Founded by brothers Jose Antonio and Francisco Rodriguez Fernandez after they spotted the wild Huelva strawberries growing near the distillery, the founders set about making a strawberry liqueur. But their curiosity dared them to mix distilled, macerated strawberries with gin…and the iconic, distinctive and delicious Puerto de Indiaswas born.

Puerto De Indias with ginger beer, mint and basil

Taking inspiration from the explorers and pioneers of its hometown of Seville – its name translates as ‘Port to the Americas’ – the brands’ founders coupled original copper stills dating from 1880 with a drive for innovation, and a relentless desire to challenge the ‘known’.

We were lucky enough to road test a bottle recently and were surprised with just how versatile this fruity take on Mother’s Ruin really is. Mix it up with ice, tonic and some frozen summer berries, and you got a bona-fide fruit bomb that’s hard to put down.

Try mixing Puerto de Indias with ginger beer, mint, basil and fresh strawberries, and the tipple takes on a spicy yet refreshing persona. Showcased perfectly in a beautiful presentation box, this stuff looks almost too good to drink, but we’d like to see you try resist it.

The taste of summer packs an ABV of 37.5% and can be purchased for £27 from Amazon, Master of Malt and Whisky Exchange.
