airtasker pigs in blankets oast house

This December, The Oast House in Manchester is offering a once in a lifetime opportunity for a self-confessed Christmas Dinner connoisseur to be (turkey) crowned ‘Official Pigs in Blankets Tester’. With an added pay packet of £500 for your time, plus the ability to bring a friend, is this the tastiest temp job in the city?

This year, rustic retreat The Oast House (well-known for its winter TeePee), has ramped up the festive fun as it searches for an ‘Official Pigs in Blankets Tester’ – working alongside its Development Chef to ensure its Christmas nibbles are up to scratch.

Listed exclusively on community marketplace, which recently expanded into Manchester, Mancunian residents can register via the website or app and apply for the role by sharing a story of their funniest Christmas moment to date here.  Development Chef Mark York, and his team will then judge their favourite response and welcome the successful applicant to the popular Spinningfields eatery for the ultimate pigs in blankets taste-test.

Mark, Development Chef at The Oast House comments: “Pigs in blankets are the talk of the town this Christmas and are undoubtedly the trending food item of the season. That said, the pressure is on to ensure we’re serving up the best pigs in blankets and Christmas nibbles in the city.

“We’re wanting to play around with ingredients and flavours – and in order to pin down the perfect recipes, we need someone to come in and taste test to ensure our guests have the best Christmas nibbles possible! We’re looking for a festive foodie to visit The Oast House and give the team and I some honest feedback, face-to-face.”

Australian start-up Airtasker announced Manchester to be its latest city in its expansion within the UK – following success in London earlier this year, and most recently Leeds. Airtasker is a community platform website and app that connects people and businesses with members of the local community who are able to complete tasks to earn additional money.

An evolution of the local noticeboard, Airtasker leverages technology to help members of the community come together in a trusted environment to create working opportunities. Jobs posts ed range from cleaning homes, making deliveries and dog walking – to the more unusual such as, baking birthday cakes, queuing for festival tickets and writing lyrics for a jingle.

The notice from The Oast House details the following job description:

I’m Mark, Development Chef at The Oast House.

Are you a self-confessed Christmas Dinner connoisseur? Do you love pigs in blankets? Do you love the trimmings as much as the turkey? If yes, then I’ve got the ideal task for you!

We’re searching for one Mancunian resident to attend the ultimate Christmas taste-test for this year’s star of the show – pigs in blankets – and give us some honest feedback to help us perfect our Christmas nibbles menu.

One lucky candidate will be chosen to taste the best of Christmas and attend an exclusive session at The Oast House. Here, you’ll be served a range of pigs in blankets – each portion paired with a twist – throwing up some interesting flavour combinations. We’re interested to hear if traditional pigs in blankets suffice, or whether we can open your mind (and taste buds) to some tasty new twists on the festive classic?… Oh, and did we mention you’ll also be paid £500 for YOUR time?

If this task sounds right up your street, we want to know why.

Simply click “make an offer” and share a story of your funniest Christmas moment to date.

Maybe you committed a major festive faux pas, such as burning the turkey to a crisp, and having to settle on sandwiches (plus all the trimmings!) for Christmas Dinner? Or perhaps your family dog knocked over the Christmas tree and ate half the presents that were under it? If you’ve got a funny Christmas story that will forever stick in your mind, we want to hear all about it!

The applicant with the story that makes us laugh or cry the most will be given the chance to join us at the tasting session.
