AFTERNOON TEA AT ROCKLIFFE HALL

It’s such a great experience taking your child for afternoon tea somewhere special, when they put away their technology and enjoy a few delicious rounds of sandwiches, cakes and treats with mum and dad.

Our food & drink writer Rachel McAlley recently took her 7-year old daughter to try the kid’s afternoon tea at Rockliffe Hall near Darlington in the county of Durham, and they had loads of fun.

Rockliffe Hall is a beautiful grand hotel filled with history and an abundance of character, and a perfect setting to take a child to enjoy afternoon tea and have a run around the gardens.

AFTERNOON TEA AT ROCKLIFFE HALL

The afternoon tea for a child at Rockliffe Hall is priced at £12.50 and consists of a selection of finger sandwiches, chicken nuggets and fries, chunks of fresh pineapple, a rich homemade chocolate brownie, a few ring doughnuts, a handful of haribo sweets, and a drink of their choice.  Quite a fabulous kid’s afternoon tea, filled with fun.

The traditional afternoon tea for adults was priced at £25 per person and was served with a selection of seasonal finger sandwiches, homemade scones with jam and clotted cream, and a variation of cakes, puddings, and pastries all served with tea, coffee or hot chocolate.

The stand out favourites for all of us were the delicious fluffy homemade scones, the kid’s doughnuts, and the passionfruit choux pastries – all were melt in the mouth divine.

Post afternoon tea we went for a stroll around the grounds of Rockliffe Hall and ventured into the Misch Masch wonderland of curiosities, where our 7-year old daughter enjoyed playing in the adventure playground, and bird watching at the bird hide.

We hired a pod named Comet within the Misch Masch area for the afternoon to play pool and watch music TV, which was really great way to relax and settle our full tummies. We also visited one of the other pods within Misch Masch where there were lots of crafting activities taking place, so our 7-year old made herself at home and cut out, glued, glittered, and generally enjoyed getting messy and making things for an hour.

If you are a resident at the hotel, a guest in the spa, or a restaurant diner you are more than welcome to hire a Misch Masch pod free of charge for an hour to have lots of fun. There are six to choose from, all have something different inside; from the pool table that we hired, to a soft play pod for younger kids, to a movie/TV pod with comfy sofas and chairs, a crafting pod, a curious wonderland rabbit hole, and more!

If you are visiting Rockliffe Hall you need to experience the whole Misch Masch area too, so take the kids, book for afternoon tea, reserve a pod for fun and giggles, play in the adventure playground, bird watch at the hide, and splash around in the mini wetland area, you’ll have a great time.
