Foodie Experiences with P&O Cruises

Foodie Experiences with P&O Cruises – Captain Derek Gray and Captain Robert Camby share a few favourite foodie experiences from their travels with P&O Cruises.

Foodie Experiences with P&O Cruises – Nothing inspires the memory of travel more than the recollection of a particularly great meal, preferably eaten alongside a great vista. Captain Gray and Captain Camby have travelled extensively all over the world with P&O Cruises and have some incredible food memories to share to inspire future holidays with P&O Cruises, when the time comes to travel again.

Captain Gray– Norwegian Fjords

P&O Cruises Brittania
P&O Cruises Olden, Norway

Modern Norwegian cuisine is characterised by the simple idea that people should eat locally, seasonally, healthily and in a way that uses nature and the land in a sustainable way. On Iona’s cruises to Norway, you can taste the best of Marte Marie’s Norwegian home cooking with her exclusive menus and enjoy a Nordic fine-dining experience at The Epicurean, where award-winning chef Kjartan Skjelde has created a menu bursting with fresh Norwegian flavours.

Captain Gray said “during our pause in operations, I’ve been thinking a lot about the little moments that make a great cruise and the simple experiences and places that make for wonderful memories. I love Norway and recall wandering along the waterfront in Bergen and exploring the lively open-air market. The Norwegians love their seafood and have many ways of preparing fish. Enjoying a fresh herring sandwich from one of the seafood stalls there, at an open-air table next to the boats, is an unforgettable experience.

“Another is taking in vistas of the fjords with a simple cup of coffee. One of the best has to be the one I enjoyed at 1,000 feet above the fjord in Olden at the top of the tramway. It was made with such care in a classically Scandinavian glass-faced café.”

Captain Camby– Sindhu and Dubai and Arabian Gulf

P&O Cruises Dubai

From the modern city of Dubai, to calls in Bahrain and Oman, these 7-28 night fly-cruises combine winter sunshine, iconic skylines, desert dunes and atmospheric souqs to stunning effect. Flying to Dubai in under 8 hours, you can enjoy a winter holiday that has it all – sunshine, exotic locations, beaches, and the opportunity to discover a different culture.

Captain Camby said that “When we can sail again, I’m very much looking forward to dining at onboard Indian restaurant Sindhu. I love their famous signature dish and the service is always warm and friendly.

“I had the opportunity to do part of Oceana’s maiden Dubai & Arabian Gulf season, and the food – particularly the Indian cuisine – and sights I experienced will remain with me as some of my best memories ever. I remember one restaurant had a full-sized train carriage inside it. You ate your dinner on the station platform or in the train itself!

“I also had the chance to experience a desert safari in this region, and one of the highlights of the tour is the candlelit dinner in the desert. The food is all local and served in the traditional way. Both the food and the ambiance are priceless.

Oceana set up an Arabic lounge on the open deck every evening during that voyage, and the opportunity to enjoy Arabic coffee on an evening with friends whilst eating dates and listening to a Dubai band play live was also something I will never forget.”

As a firm favourite that is offered across the P&O Cruises fleet, Sindhu offers authentic Indian cuisine with a British twist. Reservations, from £17.50 per person, can be made on my P&O Cruises, or whilst on board.
