BREWDOG YORK

We sent our writer Rachel McAlley to York for an afternoon of food and retro video games at one of the world’s most well-known craft beer joints, BrewDog.

BrewDog York is located almost at the top of Micklegate, a short 10-15 minute walk away from the main busy streets of York’s shops and tourist attractions; like York Minster, the River Ouse, and the Railway Museum. In fact, it is just a stone’s throw from Micklegate Bar and the infamous York Walls.

BrewDog York

Once inside this community bar, you instantly get a feel for its rustic surroundings, with large booths, hidden rooms with vintage pacman and retro video games stations, comfy tables and chairs, and a great snacking menu.

We settled into a booth and the bar tender and chef Katie looked after our every need. She advised us on the specials from the menu, and about a few of the craft ales, but as it was lunchtime we chose a non-alcoholic option.

We had the craft-bottled German Fritz-Kola, and enjoyed a baked camembert cheese (£12) with herbed flatbread served with ale chutney, alongside a bowl of halloumi fries served in a vodka crumb with a bloody Mary sauce on the side – what a great combination of flavours. The camembert with the bread and ale chutney were delish and super moreish.

BrewDog York

Mains we opted for included, one of the infamous Brew Dog pizzas (£10.75) with goat’s cheese, pinenuts, red onion, rocket, tomatoes and mozzarella, and a charcuterie board (£10.95) with salami, Parma ham, and salad. We also ordered an extra side of buffalo cauliflower (£8.50) served in a hot sauce, sticky glaze, and vegan mayo on the side.

The stand out dishes were the baked camembert, the goat cheese pizza, and the hot sauce which surrounded the cauliflower florets which gave a perfect kick to this scrumptious side dish.

BrewDog York

All in all we had excellent service from Katie, plus a really good hearty and filling lunch at Brew Dog, and we would absolutely return one evening after work for a few craft beers, a pizza and a play on one of the many fun retro games machines.
