Christmas has well and truly arrived at popular Yorkshire attraction Lotherton, with Santa and his elves getting their skates on.

Santa took to the ice, accompanied by skaters from Bradford Ice Arena, to officially open this year’s Christmas Experience and to let the people of Yorkshire know he has taken up residence at his new ho-ho-home.

Our girl Rachel McAlley took her family along to enjoy the opening evening on Friday 22nd November, and what a wonderful experience it was.

From now until 5 January 2020, families can enjoy a Christmas day out like no other, embarking on adventures with fairies, elves and, of course, Santa himself at the popular country estate on the edge of Leeds.

As well as these family favourites, this year’s frosty new addition of a 596 square metre ice-rink is proving popular, with visitors enjoying a frozen fairytale on the ice.

Cllr Judith Blake, Leader of Leeds City Council, said: “We’re delighted to share the news that Santa and his elves have skated into this year’s Christmas Experience and are ready and waiting to meet the region’s families.

“This time of year is always magical at Lotherton and we can’t wait to welcome people from across Yorkshire and beyond. The house is dressed in all its Edwardian finery, the carols are being sung and the Elf Village is sparkling with a hint of festive magic, we’ve also heard the fairies in the Dell are putting on a spectacular show this year. With the arrival of Santa, it’s all set to be a fantastic day out for all the family.”

The Christmas Experience includes seasonal favourites such as the Elf Village, the Enchanted Fairy Dell and the Twelve Days of Christmas Woodland Walk, which H&N writer, Rachel McAlley thoroughly enjoyed.

Exploring the house will transport visitors back in time, as they enjoy each room decked out in the traditional festive finery of an Edwardian Christmas.

And, of course, Santa has now taken up residence in his very own North Pole, where little ones can help the elves in their workshop before visiting the man himself to share their festive wishes.

The Christmas Experience is open now, and is run by Lotherton and Breeze. Tickets are still available (although weekends are almost full), so why not skate over to www.thechristmasexperience.co.uk to find out more and book a magical trip for your family.
