Devonshire Arms Hotel Charity Bike Ride

On Weds June 13th, a 40-strong team of amateur cyclists set off on a 75 mile ride from The Devonshire Arms Hotel, Bolton Abbey to Chatsworth in aid of industry charity, ‘Hospitality Action’.

Devonshire Arms Hotel Charity Bike RideThe team, which comprised of employees of Devonshire Hotel and Restaurants Group, supported by William Cavendish, Lord Burlington, The Duke of Devonshire’s son, had trained hard to tackle the challenge which included some seriously steep ascents – 3000m of elevated climbs along the route in total, including the infamous ‘Strines’ area near Sheffield, notoriously tough, and known to challenge even professionals.

They aim to raise £20 000 for Hospitality Action (www.hospitalityaction.org.uk) Managing Director of The Devonshire Hotels and Restaurants Group, Richard Palmer, commented:

Of course the main bonus is the help that we have been able to afford this superb charity, supporting those either working in, or retired from, the hotel and restaurant trade – offering them a crucial lifeline in times of need. After learning about their work, we wanted to give something back to the industry, and our colleagues – win, win!’

They rode out across the Dales and into the Peak District via Addingham, Silsden and Keighley, past Bradford and onto Heckmondwike, then Shepley, Over Penistone, Midhopestones, Bamford – before arriving at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire, with finishing times between 2.05pm and 5.30pm.

The event was kindly sponsored by Temple Spa, Walton’s catering supplies, Barnsley Catering Solutions, Corney and Barrow and Chevin Cycles.
