How to Transition Your Look From Day to Night: Summer Looks

Having outfits that are easily transitioned from day to night is essential for days you’re going out-out straight after work or are unsure where the evening might take you. It can be hard to find something to wear that’s suitable for both – luckily there’s ways to make sure you’re prepared for those day to night outfit transitions.

An essential part of being ready for daytime and evening styles is filling your wardrobe with versatile pieces that you can mix and match. This is better known as a ‘capsule wardrobe’ and includes classic clothing pieces, often in neutral colours, that are always in fashion and complement each other well, making the transition from day to night so much easier.

What makes the perfect day to night outfit?

A day to night outfit is all about balancing a smart-casual finish with comfort and glamour. Essentially you want a look that can be worn during the day but also can be styled up in the evening. Often this is achieved by wearing a neutral item of clothing that gets accessorised later in the day.

How to transition your look from day to night

So, you know what you want to achieve but how do you get there? We explore some tips on how you can find the ideal outfit that you can transform from every day to evening wear with ease.

Accessories are a massive part of an outfit: bags in particular can have an impact on how your look comes together. If you’re going out after work, prepare to leave some luggage behind. People often take large backpacks or oversized tote bags to work with them but if you’re planning on going out, bring a small bag with you for your must-haves and leave the rest in the office. A large bag can overpower your outfit, plus, it’ll save you a trip to the cloakroom.

If you’re lucky enough to not be working, the perfect bag is one that’s large enough to carry all of your essentials but also blends with your outfit. A crossbody bag is often a good evening choice as you can pop it over yourself and forget it’s even there.

The little black dress

The little black dress (LBD) is a fashion staple that never seems to go out of style. During the day, rock your LBD with a suit blazer and some womens trainers. To transform the look, bling it up with chunky jewellery and add a splash of colour with a clutch bag – you can also change into heels if you want to make it even more classy. Jewellery is a perfect way to easily transform your outfit as you can simply keep it packed in your bag and then pop it on once you’re ready to go out.

Midi skirts

Midi skirts are also fashionable for daytime events and late nights out. During the day, pair your skirt with a tucked-in top or blouse for a casual finish. Swap this out for a cropped top or layer with a leather jacket to achieve a chic style, ideal for evening dinners or drinks.

Bonus tip: if you match your skirt with a buttoned shirt or long top, you can restyle without getting changed at all. Simply create a knot at the front of the top to transform a standard shirt into a stylish cropped top!

Oversized shirt dress

An oversized shirt dress works perfectly for any day out. Pop on some leggings or cycling shorts and throw your hair in a loose bun for a cute ‘I woke up like this’ vibe. Switch it up in the evening by rocking the shirt as a mini dress and letting your hair down. Again, a chunky chain and some hoops can really bring this to life.

Jumpsuits

Jumpsuits are another wardrobe piece that’s ideal for an easy transition between day and night looks. A standard black jumpsuit with some slip-on shoes makes a comfy and simple day outfit. In the evening, elevate this piece to a new level by switching to heels and bringing out some bling to give it a sparkle. You can also get jumpsuits with removable straps, if you keep them on during the day and then remove them in the evening, it’ll create a bandeau neckline and the illusion of a brand-new outfit.

These were just a few of the ways you can transition your look from day to night without hassle or changing up your outfit too much. Get yourself some staple wardrobe pieces next time you’re shopping or on a fashion shopping app and get creative mixing and matching different outfits.
