When a dish is this quick and simple to make, you won’t need to reach for the takeaway menu. Stir-fried Beef and Broccoli with Egg Noodles is the perfect Chinese ‘fakeaway’ option. With just 15 minutes of prep time and only 15 minutes of cooking time, you’ll be enjoying your Stir-fried Beef and Broccoli with Egg Noodles much sooner than any takeaway – what’s more it’s healthier too without compromising on the taste; it’s a win-win all round!

Recipe serves: 4 people

Prep time: 15 minutes

Cooking time: 15 minutes

  • 400g quick-fry sirloin steak, thinly sliced
  • 240g medium egg noodles
  • 1 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 400g broccoli florets
  • 1 medium red onion, coarsely chopped
  • Handful of beansprouts
  • Ground black pepper to taste

For the stir-fry sauce:

  • 1 teaspoon cornflour
  • 35ml soy sauce
  • 60ml oyster sauce
  • 10ml mirin
  • 35ml water

  1. In a small bowl, mix together all the stir-fry sauce ingredients making sure that all the cornflour has been well mixed in so that there are no lumps
  2. Cook the noodles according to packet instructions
  3. While the noodles are cooking, heat a large wok or frying pan on a medium heat and when the wok is hot, add half the oil until it starts to smoke. Add the chopped onions and stir-fry for a couple of minutes, then add the broccoli and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes. Remove the onions and broccoli from the wok and set aside
  4. Add the remaining oil to the wok and heat until it starts to smoke. Add the beef strips and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes on a high heat until the beef starts to colour and caramelise on all sides. Do this in batches; if the wok/pan is overcrowded the beef will start to boil
  5. Once all the beef has been stir-fried, add all of it back to the wok. Add the cooked onions and broccoli and pour in the stir-fry sauce and cook for 30 seconds, then add the beansprouts and stir into the sauce
  6. Drain the noodles in a colander, then rinse under cold water and add them to the wok
  7. Toss all the ingredients together making sure that everything is well coated in the sauce, then season with black pepper to taste
