Beard Care, Self-Care, Hair Care, and Skin Care, It’s all the same essentially, isn’t it? It’s about taking care of yourself, making you feel, look and jump with confidence. That’s essentially the goal of any product, however it still comes back to you, discipline is a principle in many of our lives.
If you are a parent, employee or even a child. We all have to be a little disciplined, don’t we?
The same applies to taking care of yourself, it takes discipline to go to the gym, work on the days you don’t want to and sometimes even put up with that annoying boss!
So, I’m here doing a blog for my friend Angela at HN Magazine, so you can boss your beard care routine with ease.

Let’s talk about Beard Oil firstly as this is an essential product for anyone looking to grow, maintain and promote a healthier beard. This type of product is formulated to tackle many beard problems as mentioned above.
Our oils are made up of natural and essential oils that are carefully blended and are jam-packed with all the key nutrients for your skin beneath the beard.
A common misperception is that beard oil is for your beard hair when it’s actually not made for that reason. Its purpose is to hydrate, condition and nourish the skin beneath your beard, with this, you only need a small amount because it does go the distance when applied.
Now, you’re probably wondering what’s for the beard hair then!
Glad you asked.
Beard Balm is the product you need when it’s time to condition, nourish and style your beard, these are the key attributes of this product. Similar to oil, this has added cocoa butter and beeswax for that additional hold, so if you’re looking for a natural styling product this is for you. It tames the flyway hairs and keeps your beard in great condition, so you can tackle any task whilst looking like a well-groomed SUPERHUMAN!
Now, after a hard day’s graft, you need to wash out all that hard work, sweat and any built-up debris. Don’t be a dirty dog, wash that beard of yours!
Yes, if you’re taking care of your beard you need a decent beard wash. One that is actually formulated to look after your skin and hair whilst clearing away all that dirt. Head hair shampoo is actually bad for your skin, SCALP included! It tends to have added parabens, sulphates, additives, alcohol and many more unhealthy ingredients. Stay clear – man or woman!
They use these additional unnecessary ingredients so they can prolong the shelf life of the product, instead of being 6-12 months, they can extend up to three years. I’ve even seen up to five years before, this is also a great way to spot if it’s a healthy shampoo for you.
The second way to tell is by looking at the bottle/label, if it states “SLS Paraben Free” this is highly likely to be a decent product!
Quick bonus tip – UK Law, states you can only allow up to 2% Essential/Fragrance oil. If a product states 98% Natural, this is because they have used a fragranced scent which is not natural, however, essential oils are classed as natural and can be passed as such 100%.
Whilst essential oils are natural, they also have their own key benefits! Fragrance oils have no added benefits.

That brings me to, how to handcraft beauty products or in this case beard products.
I originally created the Man Made Beard Company from my bedroom back in 2019, in preparation for the launch, I was waiting to find out about the new health and safety laws coming into play. Then Covid 19 hit, it made me delay the start of the newest beard brand in the UK.
In April, I kickstarted my business and went live with everything. Wanting to keep my customers safe, I jumped into an office space (scary times), but this guaranteed to be more preserved and healthier for the beards I supplied.
Now, I hand-make each product here in Bristol. Depending on the product type, you would normally find me blending carrier oils (the base Ingredients), with essential oils (added benefits plus beautiful aromas), this is how most common hair and skin oils are made.
Making a beard balm, I would have to melt down the beeswax and butters to a liquid form and add the premade liquid oils. With beard balms and beard butters, when pouring these, they need to be cooled down to soon solidify. When used these will help style, condition and hydrate your beard.
It’s funny, I’ve just summed up over four years of work in less than 500 words, so if you are interested in learning how to make your own products then you’re welcome aha.
The only other thing I would point out is ensuring that you attain a CPSR (Cosmetic Product Safety Report) if you wish to legally sell your own handmade creations for profit. If you’re struggling or are unsure of how to attain these certificates hit me up, let’s keep your customers safe together!
I always advocate for keeping the consumer safe and I would rather you kept your customers safe too and not have any issues further down the line, I’ve been burned by a brand that hadn’t followed protocol which resulted in my face having a reaction to a product.
This was a big reason why I started creating, certifying, and sharing my beard creations with others. Also, note it is illegal to sell without a safety report for your product, some do skip these steps but don’t be a clown!
Do the right thing!
Handmaking safe, indulgent, quality products that help others is a work of art, there is beauty in the method. Trust me when I say that creating these products, in a warm, well-scented room creates euphoria within the moment, making you feel happier, relaxed and may I say less stressed!
Essentially these products also do this, because the essential oils have positive benefits and when you are in that vibe, it’s certainly a pleasant one.

There’s no shying away from the fact that in recent years the beard market has boomed, during the Covid 19 pandemic many men, grew a lockdown beard. Back then you would probably see someone with a beard staring back at you through a Zoom call or saw your neighbour Steve who grew a lockdown beard. You probably even grew quite fond of him taking the bins out in the mornings with his newly grown confident beard. Just watch out for his wife Karen, she’s a right mare!
Anyways Steve, returned back to work and before stepping back into the office in fear of the remarks, he decided to shave his beard!
That’s essentially how it went in the UK, and now unfortunately with the war going on, inflation and yes, a complete circus at number 10 Downing Street, (even Karen was lined up to be the next prime minister at one point), many UK businesses and households have been feeling the pinch, just know you’re not alone, we are all in this messed up situation currently, but better days will come.
